Further note

Oh, yes. I have a book recommendation for you. More precisely, a series recommendation. Fantasy series. You may have already read it. Peter Garrison. The Changeling War, I don't remember the name of the second one, and the third is The Magic Dead.

Never, ever read this series.

The only reason I read the whole thing was because I suffer from the curse of curiosity - I must find out What Happens Next. In this case, it wasn't worth it. The writing style is atrocious, sometimes jumping from point of view to point of view, sometimes sticking with one person for a while, but making everyone sound basically the same. All the mysteries brought up are either never really explained, or explained in a totally anticlimactic throwaway way. The ending of the series is either one of the worst endings in the history of fantasy writing, a blatant effort to set things up for another series, or both. While there are a few interesting ideas, they don't really get taken anywhere, and both small and large details change from book to book, as if the author took some time off, forgot the details, and didn't bother looking them up. The characters, by and large, are totally two dimensional, with in many cases no real motivation, particularly the bad guys. (The main Earthly bad guy is so 2d it's disturbing. He's Evil. Just Evil. He wants Power. That's it. That's basically his perspective. At least some of the other bad guys want power for a reason. We eventually learn he was sent to earth by the main otherworldly bad guy. We never find out why. He Just Was.)

Hopefully this will provide appropriate warnings.
